Air India Chicago-Delhi Flight Cancelled After Long Delay, Passengers Fume

NEW DELHI: After being delayed for hours, an Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi was cancelled, leaving some 300 irate passengers stranded.

The flight was scheduled to leave Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Tuesday at 13.30 local time and arrive in Delhi at 14.20 local time on March 15.

According to reports, technical issues caused the flight to be cancelled; nevertheless, passengers claimed that they were not informed of the delays or given alternative transportation options until Wednesday evening.

Some travelers even expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that it is still unclear when they will be able to fly to Delhi.

"We are still at the airport, and the airplane is nearly 22 hours late. Nobody is there to lead us. The airline crew hardly ever provides any information. We don't know when we will be able to visit Delhi,” stated Gopal Krishan Solanki, who was awaiting information regarding the aircraft.

The hotel was given for the airline passengers, according to Solanki, although it was booked rather last minute.

"We waited here for a very long period without receiving any information regarding the fight or accommodations. The hotel was announced to us rather late," he said.

According to sources, one of the passengers is a man who recently lost his mother and was scheduled to arrive for the funeral rites. Air India has stated that technical issues are to blame for the flight's cancellation.

"Technical issues forced Air India flight AI 126 to be cancelled on March 14, 2023. All-around assistance was provided to the impacted customers, who are now being accommodated on other flights. The inconvenience we have caused to our customers is deeply regrettable," an Air India spokeswoman stated on Wednesday.

The government informed Parliament on Tuesday that 1,171 flights were cancelled overall in 2022 owing to technical issues, down from 1,481 in 2020 and 931 in 2021.
